Im 18 and had 1 credit card for 6 months should i apply for an american express?

i haved paied all my bills on time and i have a checking and savings account. iv been at my current job for 30 months and i have never made a late payment. im a student and i work part time making about 150 a week. should i apply for the amex or should i wait?
