Skoda octavia 1.9tdi clutch and brake problem?

i have a 2003 octavia and for the last 6 months the brake pedal has travelled a fair distance before the brakes apply ive had this into kwik fit who gave in and said they couldnt find the solution even though they bled the system etc,when i got the car back from them it was marginally better but not great! and recently the clutch is acting kind of similar and im having problems with some gears and the other day i was driving car and lost all use of the clutch as it was stuck to floorr,i did manage to drive home in 2nd gear thankfully. The next day a friend of mine suggest trying to lift the pedal off the floor which i did and once again the clutch is working again although still with crunching gears particularly in reverse and 3rd. ive noticed the fluid reservior for both the clutch and brakes are combined Does anyone know if these problem are related ANY INFO WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED
